Many types of equipment are used to get the most scientific evidence possible. Here you will find some of the most popular. Please note that we do not recommend any particular brands. The brand of equipment that you use is up to you. The photos presented here only show the type of equipment we choose to use..

EMF Detectors

We use these items as a guideline of where to look, not as actual evidence. We do a baseline reading before the investigation starts to give us an idea of the norms of the area. *Critics of paranormal investigation contend that EMF meters are grossly misused for this purpose. The study of electromagnetism is a very complicated discipline and no one has ever shown that an EMF meter actually detects ghosts.*

Also known as a Gauss Meter: a magnetometer for measuring the intensity of a magnetic field, calibrated in gauss.

When the electromagnetic field is disrupted the meters will spike and signal that there has been a change. This will indicate to the ghost hunter to pay attention to this area for other types of paranormal activity that might be displayed.

Analog

Digital

K2 or KII

The K2 EMF meter is a powerful, fast sampling Electromagnetic Field (EMF) Meter that covers frequencies from 30-20,000 Hz. This makes the K2 EMF meter a great instrument for both Paranormal Research and for finding potentially harmful high EMF levels in your home or work environment. The K2 EMF meter is pocket sized so that you can always be ready to take a reading!

Tri-Field Meter

Trifield ® Meter measures all three types of electromagnetic field: AC magnetic field, AC electric field, and radio (including microwaves). The magnetic and electric detectors are 3-axis, making the meter easier to use than comparable 1-axis meter

MEL-Meter

The 'Mel Meter is a dual purpose combination unit that measures both EMF (Electromagnetic Field) and Temperature simultaneously. The Mel Meter was designed and developed by Gary Galka of DAS Distribution Inc. Gary lost his oldest of three daughters, Melissa. After Melissa’s passing, some incredible things started to happen to Gary and his family. Melissa began to make her presence known through numerous ADC’s (after death communications) to Gary and his family. Gary designed the Mel Meter as a way to communicate with his daughter whom Gary says helped with the healing process.

The device is named after his daughter 'Mel' and the model number is her year of birth 87 and her year of passing 04 - "Mel-8704". For a long time there have been theories that spirits can manipulate the energy fields that surround us. These theories go on to say that energy is heat so when it’s transferred from one location to another it leaves behind a cold spot.

Knowing this Gary built a device to not only register AC/DC EMF (Electromagnetic Field) fluctuations but at the same time record variances in temperature on a single display.

Realizing that the paranormal community consists of men and woman that donate their spare time and services to help others, Gary initiated a program within his company that donates 10% of his Mel Meter production to various people, paranormal groups, auctions and charities. He believes that the Paranormal community in general in time, can and will make a huge difference in our every day lives, and in his words are the “Good Guys” and he simply wants to help these people however he can.

Voice Recorders (for EVP's)

Analog tape recorders:

Once a staple of all ghost hunter kits. Since spirits or ghost are believed to affect electromagnetic fields, it was thought that they could interact with the magnetic heads of an analog tape recorder by imprinting their voices on them. Even after the debut of digital voice recorders, some groups still use the analog recorders because using a tape provides a hard copy which could be put aside for later.

Digital Voice Recorders:

Provides superior sound, convenient file management, and longer recording time. Many models have the ability to quickly transfer audio files to a computer via USB, PC connection or removable media.

EVP Instruments

RT-EVP Interactive digital voice recorder designed exclusively for the paranormal market. Designed with the paranormal enthusiast in mind, this sleek new recorder boosts many of the key, essential features that paranormal enthusiasts require, which are unobtainable with the conventional off the shelf products currently available.

This new device is sure to catch the attention of the amateur and professional alike who are seeking new and more efficient ways to enhance their investigative skills said Gary Galka, the designer and President of DAS. It is my aspiration that the features and functionality of this new Instrumental Transcommunication (ITC) device, help bring us all one step closer to better understanding not only the world we live in now, but to also help us to appreciate and prepare for the world that awaits us all in the hereafter.

For the first time, The unexplained phenomenon of the Paranormal, Technology and Innovation, Merge together to create the DAS-RT-EVP, The Worlds first and Only REAL TIME Digital EVP Recorder Designed exclusively for the Paranormal Enthusiast. The RT-EVP, can be configured to operate in four distinct operational modes based on the specific needs and
circumstances encountered in the field. The LCD user interface and operating features are designed for ease of use and simplicity, to address the individual needs of the Amateur and Professional Paranormal Investigator alike. ITC researchers and Investigators of the Paranormal, will be able to Listen to EVP's as they occur LIVE in Real Time, and then interact immediately based on intelligent data gathered during their Investigations to encourage further Etheral communication. While the RT-EVP can amplify environmental sounds, it is not to be mis-understood as a ambient noise amplifier. The RT-EVP runs parallel microprocessors to encode, decode and extract data from your SAVED audio file and then PLAY it back to you in a user defined, time selectable window from 1-60 seconds. One of the RT-EVP advanced features can Combine EVP's together with Frequency Sweep Simultaneously to Create the First "Hybrid" all in one Investigative Tool. For the first time, Paranormal Investigators can explore Audio down to 15Hz well beyond the normal Human hearing range of 20Hz-20KHz, for voice phenomenon in the hidden Infrasound range. The operational Efficiency of the RT-EVP eliminate countless hours of Audio data analysis after your investigation. You can Listen, Record and even Repeat any suspect evidence Audio sections in Real Time using the built in Inteli-Queue Audio analyzer technique without interrupting your LIVE session.

PLAYBACK FEATURES: Intuitive Design Optimized for Simultaneous RECORD / PLAYBACK

Users of the new RT-EVP will quickly appreciate and benefit from the simultaneous Record and Playback feature. During a standard EVP session, a user will typically ask a series of questions over a period of time unaware of any response that may be captured during the session. This data is then later reviewed hours or sometimes even days later, which is very inefficient and time consuming. One of the key features of the RT-EVP allows the user to extract, play and hear the saved voice data file while it is still Recording Live. An adjustable 1-15 second Playback On Delay allows the user to ask questions and hear any response that follows within the 1-60 second user selectable window.

A simple question typically takes about 3 seconds to ask. So, if you have the delay set for 5 seconds, you would hear your question repeated back to you in the 5 seconds followed by any ethereal response recorded. If you think you hear something but you are not sure during the Real Time operation, there is a quick review button that allows you to back up in 5 second increments each time it is pressed without disturbing or interrupting your session.

New Recorders that allow you to listen to EVP's real time.

Table Top Tape Recorders

This is the same as an Analog. You should use an external Mic with this item for the best results. Also, only use fresh tapes every time.

Cameras

Film

The The higher the speed film, the better.

Disposable Cameras

Again the higher speed the better.

Digital Cameras:

Can do things film cameras cannot: displaying images on a screen immediately after they are recorded, storing thousands of images on a single small memory device, recording video with sound, and deleting images to free storage space.

Full Spectrum Digital Camera.

It is widely understood that the reason apparitions appear in photographs is due to the fact
that all cameras "leak" a certain amount of invisible infrared and ultraviolet light into the
camera via the lens. Although unseen at the time of the shutter's release, the camera can
indeed register these invisible light waves and anything that may be vibrating within these
waves (i.e., ghosts). Camera manufacturers go to great lengths to prevent this from occurring.

They modified this camera and returned it to it's ultra sensitive state allowing the maximum amount of invisible light waves to enter the lens thus increasing the
possibility of capturing images of those things which reside within the IR and UV light ranges.

Night Vision Camera

New Camera design with the ability to capture photos with a flash or with IR

Thermal Imaging Cameras

Digital Video Recorders

Mini DV Recorder

IR Flash Light Video Camera

Is the perfect tool for those who want to see what secret things are going on in the dark. With this HD camcorder you can record what you discover on video or still images, so you will have evidence to show the rest of the world!

The camera-flashlight also doubles as a voice recorder so you can dictate your thoughts while you’re out and about in the dark. The camera lens is located in the center of the torch and will record mysterious goings onto a micro SDHC card when the attached LED lights illuminate the darkness around you.

Other Important Tools

EM/EMF PUMP

Paranormal research is done in theory, and we want to use any additional equipment possible to assist us in the documentation of paranormal activity. Much has been written on spirits drawing energy from the surroundings which are described as cold spots, and when battery drain occurs it is often thought to be entities using the batteries to give themselves additional energy. The EM Pump is an effective way to introduce a much larger amount of energy at a selected location in hopes of giving spirits an additional energy source to increase their ability to communicate.

Laser Grid

This handy little device displays a pattern of lights on a wall and you can see if something crosses it quite easily by the interruption in the light pattern. Although we can’t say that an entity of any kind has mass and can break through the light patterns, if they are able to leave a trail by refracting the lights, then we are one step closer to understanding what they are made of.

Laptop Computer

Any brand will do. Audio, pictures, and video take up lots of space so make sure that you have room.

Pen Drives

Now here is the life saver of any computer. These lil’ gems will save your hard drive for all of those programs that you are going to be running. We use these to store all of our investigation information (Photos, EVP’s, Video’s, Reports).

Compass

A compass is a navigational instrument that measures directions in a frame of reference that is stationary relative to the surface of the earth. The frame of reference defines the four cardinal directions (or points) – north, south, east, and west. Intermediate directions are also defined. Usually, a diagram called a compass rose, which shows the directions (with their names usually abbreviated to initials), is marked on the compass. When the compass is in use, the rose is aligned with the real directions in the frame of reference, so, for example, the "N" mark on the rose really points to the north. Frequently, in addition to the rose or sometimes instead of it, angle markings in degrees are shown on the compass. North corresponds to zero degrees, and the angles increase clockwise, so east is 90 degrees, south is 180, and west is 270. These numbers allow the compass to show azimuths or bearings, which are commonly stated in this notation.

There are two widely used and radically different types of compass. The magnetic compass contains a magnet that interacts with the earth's magnetic field and aligns itself to point to the magnetic poles. The gyrocompass (sometimes spelled with a hyphen, or as one word) contains a rapidly spinning wheel whose rotation interacts dynamically with the rotation of the earth so as to make the wheel process, losing energy to friction until its axis of rotation is parallel with the earth's.

Thermometer

We use this item because some in the field believe that a sudden change in temperature may indicate the existence of a spirit.

IR Thermometer

Flashlight

Better to see in dark spaces. Also can attempt communication to see if the spirit can manipulate the flashlight by turning it off and on.

Headphones

Cleansing Kit should consist of:

Divining Rods

Pen and Paper

The most important part are these 2 items. They are a necessary tool to both the client and the investigator. It is important for the client to write down their personal experiences, time, place and emotions at that moment. Pen and paper are important to the investigator so that notes can be taken during pre-interviews, interviews, investigations, research and findings.
